XLIII Coffee, Mỹ An

The flagship of the roastery that did most to put Đà Nẵng on the specialty coffee map.

A modern Vietnamese specialty coffee bar with pour-over stands, a scale and bags of single-origin beans on a shelf.

Why it matters

This is one of the clearest places to see the argument in specialty coffee in Vietnam happening in a room: a Vietnamese roastery selling Vietnamese coffee to Vietnamese customers at specialty prices, which was not a viable business here fifteen years ago.

The roaster sits behind glass in the main space, which is unusual and is the point.

A note on the name

It opened in 2018 as 43 Factory Coffee Roaster — 43 being Đà Nẵng’s vehicle registration code — and now trades as XLIII Coffee. Both names are still in circulation, including on their own site, so you will see either.

What to expect

Specialty pricing, not pavement pricing: a filter coffee here costs several times what a cà phê sữa đá costs at a cà phê cóc two streets away. That is the trade, and both are worth doing.

If you want the traditional drink, this is not the place for it — go to a cà phê cóc instead.
